J. Cole Set To Marry College Sweetheart

*I write this with a clenched jaw as tears cascade from my broken heart*

Today, it’s been confirmed that superstar rapper J. Cole is getting married to college sweetheart, Melissa HeHolt. She was spotted shopping for wedding gowns at L’Fay Bridal, a high-end bridal boutique based in the Upper East Side.

All jokes aside, I’m extremely happy for the couple. They’ve been dating for nine years after meeting at their alma mater, St. Johns University, where they both majored in communications.

J. Cole has been flying high these past few months. In December, his third studio album 2014 Forest Hills Drive was met with critical acclaim. Selling 350,000 albums in its first week, the release was unprecedented considering there were no radio singles, and very little promotion. Familiar with the art of strategic marketing, the release of his second album, Born Sinner (2014), was pushed up to drop the same day as Kanye West’s highly anticipated Yeezus.

And now he has a wedding to look forward to! Notoriously private about his romantic life (perhaps following the example from his mentor Jay Z…), he did speak about the nature of relationships and marriage in an interview with HipHopCanada.

The wedding date has not gone public yet, but I’m sure the affair will be exclusive. In the meantime, please enjoy some throwback pictures of the engaged couple. And ladies….let’s find time to cry together.
